Imagine yourself in a society where stairs don't exist, but buildings still have levels. Imagine seeing in grayscale in a place where stoplights still have color. Or that every person besides you knew a dirty secret.
THAT'S what it feels like to be disabled. Frustrating, isolating... it seems like you don't belong here.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
As time and technology advances, we make it so much easier to survive and thrive. Especially for members of the disabled community. But the balance of advancement versus the time passed seems to be a little slow.
In this iteration of this portfolio, I made it paramount to make this website just that bit more accessible. HTML5 allows for hard coding of alternative text (colloquially known as 'alt text') so screenreaders can effectively read things that are visuals. Images mainly.
Next comes making visible text more digestible. Breaking up paragraphs like these to avoid the dreaded wall of text, as well as using OpenDyslexic as the font on the site. This font was designed for those with dyslexia to be able to read electronic text. Special thanks to antijingoist on itch.io for providing the font and making it free to use.
While this maybe what I can add at my current skill level in HTML, I aim to add extra accessibility to my portfolio with things such as a native dark mode, as well as audio playback for site features for those with issues regarding sight, in the event of a lack of screenreader program.
Thanks for visiting!
